We have seen some incredible videos of guys losing their brakes and either mashing into stuff of working a miracle but the reality is that this is the most amazing one we have ever seen. Driver loses brakes normally ends with a car that is stuffed into a wall or a driver that has found a ripple in the space/time continuum that allows ’em an escape route. This is beyond any comparison we could ever make to another video. Why? The guy loses the brakes in his Corvette and he is hauling at Sebring. Taking an runoff road he takes a high speed left, crashes through a fence, avoids on coming traffic, weaves between a street sign and a truck which lands him in a hotel parking lot! Incredibly the car is OK enough for him to figure out where he is, leave the parking lot and drive BACK INTO THE FRONT GATE OF THE TRACK.
The nose of the car had to be at least dinged up some from clearing the gate right off the property and we’re guessing the suspension was a little out of whack from driving off a tall curb but the fact that the thing was still cruising was really something else. We can only imagine the level of confusion that was caused when the driver left the ball yard. Although we don’t see anyone coming after him in this video you’d have to imagine someone said something over the radio, right? Then think about the people working the race gate and they see an actual racer driving onto the property where the spectators pull in.
We have to give the driver a lot of credit. That guy checked down pretty hard and did what he needed to do to prevent the utter destruction of his Corvette. It could have been exponentially if he just froze up, landed on the malfunctioning brake pedal and smashed headlong into the wall. This video is an all-timer. An absolute first ballot hall of famer.
