This 1948 Ford F-5 Monster Truck Has Some Awesome Driveline Components And An Engine You May Not Know

We’re not really sure why someone built this truck and by the wording of the ad, the seller isn’t so sure either but that doesn’t take anything away from our opinion about how flipping great it is. What you are looking at is a 1992 Ford chassis with Marmon-Herrington four wheel drive that has been bolstered, beefed, and super sized, fitted with a 1948 Ford F-5 cab, humongous tires, and an antique looking stake body in the back.  The truck was built as a promotional vehicle for a tree service and line contracting company for use in parades and other stuff like fairs.

The looks of the truck are pure old school monster and the construction is pretty much there as well. A heavy duty truck frame, massive springs, and big axles are the order of the day here. Those axles are Marmon-Herrington pieces and the chassis used is apparently a 1990s Ford truck that was converted by M-H. Chances are, if this guy is in the line service business, it is one of this old rigs that he did this to. Many of the big line service trucks have four wheel drive because of the terrain they operate in.

One of the cool things about this truck is that it derives power from an engine many people may not be totally familiar with. The 240F is a 7.8L inline six Ford turbodiesel that served for years in their medium and heavy trucks. It made 240hp at 2,600 RPM and lots of torque as you’d expect out of any diesel. This one is backed by a manual transmission and we’re sure it sounds good barking out of those straight pipes.

It is kind of yard art because of its size, titling status, and other factors, but it is still flipping glorious in our eyes. Do want!

In the event this rig sells early, here’s the text of the eBay ad –

Listing for a friend who is retiring and has decided to part with his BIG TOY

What we have here is a 1948 f-5 body on a 1992 f-800 chassis powered by a Ford 6 cylinder in line diesel backed up by a 5 speed Eaton manual transmission that is connected to a Marmon Herrington transfer case and 4.56 axles. Just the steering axle was 12 grand !! Owner has many receipts and a very understanding wife but the time has come to down size and move on.

This beast features a hydraulic 30,000 lb Tulsa winch. The front tires are 48x 25.00-20 rear are 48x 31.00-20 Primex Terra Turbo Tires

This truck has been used for parades and personal enjoyment but technically is for off road use only!!! Truck has not been tagged since build. Owner has clear title for 1992 chassis as well as the 1948 title to the cab and front clip. This truck is mechanicly sound but is to wide and to tall for Hi-way use.. Height is 9′ 6′” to top of cab 11′ 6″ to top off stacks truck weighs approximately 18000 LBS and over 10′ wide outside tire to tire.

Owner hand built truck this truck, it is not for the timid it is a BEAST over $80,000 was spent on the build and over a years labor and thousands of miles worth of parts gathering. I can tell you pictures do not do the truck justice its huge, 10′ wide. It runs great and sounds better. I know he wants to sell it the reserve has been set at a fraction of the initial investment but he said it is time for someone else to enjoy.

Please call Erwin @ 417-388-0267 for additional information or [email protected]   This truck would make a excellent vehicle for hunting reserve / pulling truck

F*cking Beautiful!!! Wish I could hear the roar of that engine!! Im starting on my 48 F5 this spring, I just love me those classic beasts!! I am nowhere near to having mine in any bragging shape but you know I waited 15 + years to have my own to restore and to tell you the truth as long as I can see her sitting in my driveway, that makes me just as excited as driving it one day! So how long did it take to have her looking that way??? Not to mention the costs, oh and what size tires are those? Thanks so damn much for sharing, now seeing your 48 makes me realize more that I dont give a sh*t that noone else can see her beauty the way I can, so thanks for making me more determined!!
