Rough Start: A Chevrolet Malibu Wagon That’s Worth Every Last Cent Of The Price!

This 1983 Chevrolet Malibu station wagon is good, period. It’s a V8/automatic longroof from Arizona coated in black, sitting on 16″ IROC knockoffs that look pretty damn good. For $3,000, we wouldn’t care if the car even ran or not! G-body wagons are sweet and this Malibu is on-par. It’s not resto-perfect, and that’s fine with us…nothing from 1983 is good when it’s completely original. Nothing.

I’m not a big monochromatic paint kind of guy, but the all-black works here. Maybe it’s because of the Buick Grand National connection, but it’s spot-on. What can be seen of the interior is nice stock pieces, a later 1980s steering wheel and custom upper door panels. Nothing to bother us here. We’d like a full gauge cluster instead of the gigantic clock, but that’s nit-picking. Underhood is a claimed 350…again, could be a 305, could have a rod sticking out, we wouldn’t care…and we are banking on a TH350 automatic being connected to it.

Room to upgrade? Yep! The sky’s the limit…well, that and your budget, of course, but whether you want an LS and a six-speed, a 383 stroker and a 700R4 or a nitrous-infused 350 and a Powerglide, it’s open season. With two grand left over, there’s a lot you can do that will be fun, since you aren’t fixing looks or replacing disgusting interior parts. We’d attack brakes and suspension first as long as it runs and drives!

Is this some sort of weird experiment to cure me of my hatred of Chevys?

Because believe me I would happily fork out $3000 and drive this car all day long. You see there comes a point where, whatever the badge, the true beauty shines through and all negative feelings wash away!

For that cheap price, I would install a gray Monte SS interior especially a bucket seat setup.

I bleed Dearborn Blue but I’ve always liked the Malibu wagons. I’d take it in a heartbeat and endure the slings and arrows of my fellow Ford faithful. It might be nice to have cheaper readily available parts for a change too

why would I pay 90% more for a newer car. I paid $300 for my 64 Buick wagon. What’s my point? there isn’t one, I’m just bragging.

I’m as hardcore a Ford guy as you’ll ever meet but this car’s a classic no-brainer. $3k for a solid G Body wagon? Take my money, please!
