eBay Find: Is This 2010 Holden VE SS Ute The Only U.S. Legal One?

eBay Find: Is This 2010 Holden VE SS Ute The Only U.S. Legal One?

This is Australia’s trump card over the United States, right here. They get utes…you know, a car/truck combo that is a useable size, and can be ordered with decent six cylinders, V8s, manual transmissions, and can haul most anything any truck could? Yeah…here’s the deal: unless it’s over twenty-five years old, you aren’t getting one anytime soon…blame the 25-year import rule that pisses off anyone who wants to bring in non-USDM cars. It’s the bane of anyone who wants to bring in a Skyline, Land Rover Defender, or the really good rally homologation cars.

But every once in a great while, one or two newer cars manage to work the system and acquire a state-issued ID number in addition to the factory VIN and find a roundabout way of becoming legal. Such is the case for this 2010 Holden VE SS ute. It’s not a Maloo….we could only dream…but it is a 6.0L powered Holden ute, and unlike other 2010 Holdens, this one is fully legal in the United States. The story is pretty interesting: A group of Australians had the car shipped over to KAO Autostyling in Las Vegas, Nevada. The car was converted to left-hand drive, lowered, given a painted tonneau cover and given a set of 22″ Clack wheels. Overall, the Holden looks great and if you’ve been dying for one of these, it’s available. It isn’t cheap…trust me, I’d be driving home from Vegas now if it was…but it isn’t in stupid territory.

And Aussies: I’m calling it as the seller is calling it. If this isn’t an actual SS, please tell me what isn’t right.

Nice car, truck, ute….the “general” is acting more like a private by not importing or manufacturing these here in the US. Jobs for Australia and the US, a “no brainer”.

One question submitted…”What is the reserve?” “More than twice the current ($30,000) bid.” For that money I could build one hell of an El Camino.

Yep, its Defiantly not an SS, it has a Base level “Omega” front fascia and the EK in the VIN number mean it was a V6 Omega.
