As you know, I am a total lunatic for old Army trucks and there are lots of my ilk out there. When it comes to totally awesome Army truck finds, they don’t get better than this. I found this 1942 M3A1 Armored Scout Car for sale on eBay and immediately contacted my bank about getting a $60,000+ loan to purchase it. Unfortunately, they dispatched mental health officials to my house, so this is being written from the inside of a padded cell. It was worth a shot.
I have never actually seen one of these bad boys in person. They often make appearances in old WWII movies and can be seen in genuine war footage, but it seems like lots of them went to the smelter after being put out of service, and for good reason. Unlike deuce and a half and five ton trucks, there’s not a lot of practical use for an armored scout car for the normal civilian. Thankfully, there are guys out there who snap stuff like this up to restore and preserve. This particular armored car was found in a Kansas barn back in the 1980s and over time has been restored to near perfect condition. Yes, it needs a wiper motor and and gas gauge sending units replaced, but that’s amazingly complete condition for such a rare and cool vehicle.
These were built by the White truck company and about 21,000 were produced from 1940-1944. With full time 4WD, a two speed transfer case, and a four on the floor, these babies were virtually unstoppable. Like all army trucks they are glacially slow. Like I care about that! The more famous M3 half track is based off of this truck.
The armored car comes with all the guns mounted on it. They are 100% non-functional, so don’t get any wild ideas about teaching a neighbor a lesson or anything. Even though they don’t fire, they look the business and we’d be sitting behind them making ACK-ACK noises roughly 11-seconds after taking ownership of the vehicle.
Who’s got $60K to spend?

Wicked cool
Those guns can be made to fire with not to much work!
Put a plow in front and you have a great zombie slaying machine.
My brother retro fits machine guns to run on propane for his WWII trucks. His Boufers gun would look wicked cool behind it. Right now he’s restoring a half track and Stewart tank.
