We’ve been following along with Chad’s exploits on the Goodguys Rodfather Tour all week and the fun continues today with this fantastic gallery from “Speedy” Bill Smith’s Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed located in Lincoln, Nebraska. This place is absolutely jam packed with some of the coolest engines, race cars, hot rods, weirdo creations, and historical vehicles in the history of speed in America. Chad only had limited time to tour the facility, but he still submitted more than 100 photos featuring some of the best stuff in the exhibit halls.
You know that we’re history geeks here at BangShift and places like the Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed need to be on the bucket list of every hot rodder in the country because patronizing them helps preserve and promote the great history of racing and high performance cars in this country. Consider this gallery our small poke in your side to make plans and visit “The house that Speedy Bill built” in Lincoln, Nebraska.
GALLERY:
wow, just…. wow
There it is! I must have drawn that iron cross helmeted rod 50 times in my schoolbooks as a kid.
Indeed…me too.
I saw the “Red Baron” at the Oakland Roadster Show (RIP) around ’68.
Also, it’s amazing to see that the “Boot Hill Express” is still alive.
If I remember correctly, both of those cars were Monogram model kits back in the day.
I am also very impressed with the custom made engines used in the circle track cars. Being an old drag strip guy, I do not see this kind of thing often.
Quite innovative!
Being a 73 year old and this being my 52 year in hot rods and drag racing this is where the age of inovation started! You couldnt buy alot of parts and pieces! This is where inovation came from! I am amazed at where this sport has gone with speed and ETs! Running in the 8s and 9s in the 60s it was almost always trial and error! More errors at times! My hat goes off to the people who started the trends of the 60s! Speedway has always been and will contiue to be one of my sources for parts! Thank you for all who have made this the sport that it is! Keep on doing what you are doing! Be safe go fast! “Hoots” right foot still works !
