If you are someone looking for attention, this is the way to get it. The 1978 AMC Pacer shown below and in even more detail after you hit the link to the RacingJunk ad is a pretty unique machine. We’re not 100% crazy about the color scheme, but that can all be fixed easily enough and when the car has a B&M mini-blower equipped 366ci Chrysler engine backed with a 727 trans and a 4.10-geared Chrysler 8 3/4″ rear axle, we want it! The engine fits in the front of the car nicely and a cowl hood was used to button it all up and keep the engine from poking out into the breeze. Interestingly, the carbs used on the car are a pair of Mikuni side draft two barrels. Because of their low profile, it allows them to fit up inside the raised cowl section of the hood, but those things would be leaving for EFI in a hurry if we got our mitts on this car.
There is a nitrous oxide system on the car as well and the seller claims that he’s never pushed the button to use it, so we’re not sure if that’s translation for “hey it has a cool looking nitrous bottle in it!” or if it actually has functional nitrous that the dude never used because he street cruised the car. There’s seating for two now and a roll cage. The seller claims that all the facets and functions of the car work and that he’s been cruising it on the streets, getting a ton of attention everywhere he goes. We can totally see that happening! While we dig the wheel choice, the blue isn’t our style and would have to go if we bought it. The car even has functional air conditioning, which is obviously a priority with all that glass around you amplifying the temp in the car like a microwave!

mopar guys love a challenge! i keep telling my wife its possible to give any clunker a “wicked factor” here’s proof!
As someone who loves AMC products, ( I have had 7 of ’em, so I guess I qualify) I am really trying to like this car.
I think that it’s the Pro Street thing. I just never got on board with it. This Pacer would make a fantastic sleeper. I would have done it with a big block under the hood (your choice of flavor), stock hood back on and more a innocuous looking rear tire set up. Then let ‘er rip.
Anyway, I don’t want to knock this guy’s fine effort for what it is, that’s just what I’m thinking.
