EFFING AWESOME VIDEO: A VINTAGE AUSSIE XY GT FALCON RALLY CAR IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE

If this video doesn’t spin your crank, go ahead and leave your badge at the door on the way out! The car featured here is the XY GT Falcon of Aussie racer Dave Thompson. It was a rally car from way back in the day and after being dusted off, is back to terrorizing dirt roads and the lovely countryside of Australia once again.

Unlike the zooted up, 4wd rally machines of today, cars like Thompson’s are rear wheel drive, low tech beasts that like to slide, yaw, pitch, and heave their way down dirt roads and paths that even angels fear to tread at the speeds you’ll see when you press play below.

Apparently vintage rallying is going through a bit of a renissance down under. If more stuff like Thompson’s car shows up, we’re all for it. Hell, if there were an Aussie version of the Dukes of Hazzard, this very car would be their General Lee. Look for Thompson driving the wheels off the car and having the time of his life during this video.

Thanks to Chris for the tip!

Dave Thompson is one hell of a driver with a badass car. I know nothing about Aussie rally cars, what is that roof flap for?

The roof flap is for ventilation, also high pressure air at that point pushes/keeps the dust out of the car.

Ah, you gotta love an XYGT….it might seem a bit weird to US readers (as its a 4 door) but probably the most desirable Aussie car ever. My XB is a coupe but these are worth alot more. Note at one point it accelerates away and is being filmed from behind and the left indicator comes on? This was a known trivia thing with XYGT’s – the torque on takeoff was so great that the twist in the body and steering column would put on the l/h indicator….
