Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: Even Newsweek Thinks That Cash For Clunkers Sucks

Many times we’re frustrated by the way business is conducted by the government. The recently passed Cash for Clunkers program seems to have broken in the car enthusiast’s favor though, through the hard work of SEMA and other organizations working on our behalf. It’s one of the few cases that the red tape worked for us.

From the early versions of the plan to what was actually barfed out of Congress, gearheads made out ok, mainly because, in typical fashion, the program was made so complicated and narrowly focused, there is not enough incentive or money behind it to really cause a rukus in the car hobby.

However, it’s still a money-wasting, innefective law. We were suprised to read a story from Newsweek that essentially pans the program and points out several of its many loopholes, flaws, and downright failures. Reading about how the program sucks in car magazines does not carry the same impact as a straight news source, because frankly, every enthusiast on the planet wants to keep cars out of the crusher.

Click here to see Newsweek deconstruct the program piece by piece.
