I recently received an advanced review copy of the new Carroll Shelby authorized biography and since I have been plowing through that book, visions of cool old Mustangs have crowded my brain. While trolling eBay this morning, I found an awesome little 1965 ‘Stang with a 347ci stroker engine, Weiand tunnel ram, and twin Paxton blowers. That is all backed by a 5-speed Tremec transmission and a Dana 60 rear. The car has a roll bar in it and no hood. While I’d make a wheel change, the black paint is flawless and the car is damned mean looking. That little 347 probably sounds like all kinds of hell at full throttle, too.
The kit is sold by a California company called Paradise Wheels. Paradise apparently bought out Paxton’s inventory of the old school SN series blowers some years back and they provide all the service and stuff for these old units. The old Paxton’s were based off of the McCulloch blowers used on late 1950s Thunderbirds. They use a ball drive system meaning that there is a planetary gear set in the blower that increased the impeller speed to the proper levels. I think these babies push out about 7lbs of boost at full tilt. To see both of them sitting front and center in the Mustang with their boost tubes and carb hats atop a pair of Holleys on a tunnel ram is gearhead sexiness to the max. Yes, a ProCharger or turbos are more efficient and would make more power, but as compared to the look this setup has, they bring nothing to the table.
The simple six-point roll bar is cool and must certainly help to stiffen the car up. There are no elapsed times listed for the car so we don’t know how hard it actually runs. We dig all the paint scrapes on the front down bars because it is a clear indication that the car has been driven and used a lot. Hell, we’d just sit in it and make noises during the winter, looking out over the hoodless engine bay! The paint looks great and the interior appears to be in fine shape as well. The reserve price is not listed, but we’re guessing that the seller wants a few bucks for this pony. All indications are that this car is worth it!
Ford fans, grab your drool towel before scrolling down to see photos!

that’s a great looking car! i’m amazed they managed to fit all of that in there so well…. whoever built it… wish i had money to burn, i’d bid on it for sure
That’s a lot of stuff in that tiny engine compartment.
I like it, too much is not enough.
Drum brakes all around??!!? Yeah, with all that power, I want to be confident in being able to stop before brake fade sends the pedal to the floor.
Me wanty want that 347!!!!
