Historic Video: The First Fastest Street Car Shootout

With all of this week’s talk about Larry Larson’s 6-second Nova, easily the fastest regularly driven street car anywhere, we thought it would be interesting to look back at the first Fastest Street Car Shootout in 1992. The clip was posted on YouTube by BangShift.com member ethelkilledfred. It has all the big names in street racing from 17 years ago: Max Carter, Rod Saboury, Danny Scott, Rick Dyer, the late Steve Grebeck, and the late Stan Shaw. Plus many others.

What’s interesting is that the fastest cars were in the mid 8s, which seemed like rocket ship speed back then. The video is even more nostalgic now that Memphis Motorsports Park, where every Hot Rod magazine shootout was held, has shut its gates.
