There are lots of calculators on the internet for car stuff. You can figure you compression ratio, displacements, extrapolate horsepower from drag strip time slips, and even determine the payments on that new C7 Corvette you’ve been eyeballing. There are many basic calculators that will give you a cruising RPM in by using tire height, transmission ratio, and rear end gear, but the guys at American Powertrain have taken it a couple steps farther. By using their Speed Analyzer, you can choose between several transmissions, close or wide ratio, add your tire size, rear end ratio, and then hit calculate and see what your cruising RPM will be at several different speeds at once. It will compare RPM in a five and six speed OD as well.

Modern transmissison technology has allowed hot rodders to do things that they never thought possible in the past. There’s no longer a need to be buzzing down the highway with a motor at four grand barely scraping by the speed limit. Between the rock solid manual transmissions and stout automatics available, we can now have our cake and eat it, too.
