Video: Watch A Worked Up Duramax Get Pushed To And Then Straight Past The Breaking Point On The Dyno!

Next week, I’ll be in Denver, Colorado for the Diesel Power Challenge. That contest pits 10 of the toughest diesel trucks in America against one another in a variety of challenges and events. One such event is the dyno challenge which looks a lot like what the fellas in this clip are doing with their own truck. The featured truck here in the video is an LML Duramax powered Chevy/GMC. This wicked up monster made 1,086hp and 1,900+ lb/ft of torque on the rollers before barfing half of a rotating assembly out the side of the block. While we don’t think the guys blew it up on purpose, the general mood in the room seems to be expecting some sort of engine fireworks. As it turns out, they got some!

Brian, on the contrary, the guys were actually trying to blow it up on purpose. No lie. They were trying to see just how much power a stock LML could take before it broke. Obviously these are very tough motors. It is getting a built motor now that the stock motor ventilated the block.

This was actually the second part of the series, hence the name Breaking Point 2. The first installment involved a new 6.7l Ford Powerstroke diesel that they pushed all the way to 890hp and 1600+ft-lbs before the STOCK trans started to slip. That truck is still running fine and is waiting on a built trans before they can bring it back and blow up the motor. This Duramax already had a built trans prior to this video, mostly because the stock Allison gave up at only 560hp. These guys do some wicked stuff with diesel tuning.

As a side note, I think it is super cool that you are covering the Diesel Challenge! Can’t wait for your reports on that completely insane competition. 2000hp street trucks that get 20mpg is nothing to sneeze at.

Yeah, from the sound of the bottom end and the conversation about the bad noises from the engine, that engine was already wounded prior to this pull.
