When you are an aftermarket manufacturer you need to test your products. That testing checks on the manufacturing quality, durability, and robustness of your product. If you are in the header business like Borla is, the testing also includes some thermal stress work that looks really impressive on camera!
In this case we have a Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 that has been equipped with some long tube headers as well as a Borla stack style injection unit on top. You will see and hear the engine running normally and “shifting” through the gears on the dyno as they get it up to operating temperature and the RPM that they want to run the test at. When the engine is ready, they put a load on it, open the throttle blades all the way, rip 20-degrees of timing out of it and increase the amount of fuel the injectors are delivering. The net result is a nightmare for the headers and the engine certainly ain’t all that happy about it either but this certainly tests the integrity of the welding, the material, and the overall construction of the headers.
We dig the fact that it is glowing all the way into the Borla stainless steel muffler that is at the “end of the line” so to speak in this scenario. We’re not really trying to sell Borla’s headers here as much as we are showing you a cool and pretty gnarly test that one of the leading manufacturers in the industry is using.
Brutal, right?
