Lots of us in this hobby have a strong emotional connection to a specific vehicle in our past. In my case it is the 1964 Pontiac GTO my dad restored when I was a wee lad. In the case of the two sons in this video produced by Chevrolet, it is the 1965 Impala SS, packing a four speed and 396 power. Their dad bought the car off the showroom floor in 1965 and drove it for 20 years, loving every mile.
Unfortunately, he had to sell the car when money got tight around the house and when it left, so did a piece of the boy’s childhood. Like good car guys, they never forgot about the Impala. The smells, the sounds, and the feel of rolling down the road with their pop haunted them enough that when they had the cash and the time, they went about find the car.
The crazy part? They actually found it and they surprised their pop with it. We cried like wimps when the dad gets the car back. Powerful stuff. If this doesn’t personify the whole, “Chevy Runs Deep” campaign, we don’t know what does.
Thanks to Seth for the tip!
I’m a sucker for stories like this.
This is why I probably won’t ever sell my Regal. No sale, no regrets.
Great story – did they have it restored ? And a rare buy with the 396.I can fully relate to this story as late last year I found and bought back my 69 Camaro Z28 RS that I sold forty years earlier and am now in the process of restoring .
I dont think I can give an unbiased opinion on anything involving a 65 Impala SS.
Wow. great story. Think someone will do that with an Accord someday? ….No
I’m pretty hard core but this brought a tear to my eye.
Just a great story by bangshift.com!
If my kids were to find my old ’55 Chevy from back in ’68 I don’t think my heart could take it.
that is awesome story. I wondered to be in his shoes.. the every day things. The mirror adjustment, like no time left it at all.
Great story. Dedicated sons made dad proud!
its unbelievable how much passion the father had for his lost impala, the feeling fo gaining back something lost, somethng that had to be given up…its every car guys worst nightmare to have to give up something youve tried so hard to get. kudos to the guys at bangshift.com for sharing this amazing story, very heartlfelt.
I also have sitting in my garage a stock 1966 Chevrolet Impala. I was saving it for my 1st grandchild. Now I am nearing 60..finally told to expect a baby girl in January 2012. This car will be my gift to her. I cant wait to have taken a picture of me holding this precious baby in my arms in front of this car. Because when I am gone, she will know grandma loved me.
That’s a great story.
When my husband saw this, he was crying. He had a ’66 Impala when we first met and I could tell he felt the same about “The 66 Imp” as the father in this ad. I only wish he could have it back but it was sadly compacted long ago.
I don’t think I would get the same reaction if I found my dad’s tan ’76 Vega.
