We have featured some cool old Brazilian army trucks before and today it is this restored 1971 6×6 Mercedes LG-1213 Brazilian army truck truck that we have the spotlight on. These rigs were used around the world and their more modern versions are still used by various armies for transporting people and equipment through tough terrain. We dig the 6×6 nature of this truck and we love the fact that the guys plugged GoPro cameras all over it so that we can see the suspension working from outside and under the olive drab monster. It does happen to be lacking one thing…ok a couple things but most majorly is lockers.
You’ll see the truck trying to work its way up a rutted and rough trail. The driver seems to be pretty legit because he follows the right line. The problem comes when he gets into the deep stuff that requires some legitimate clawing action from the truck. You’ll see that none of the three driven axles have lockers in them so there’s lot of tire spinning that could be forward motion if all six tires were trying to take a bite.
Hey, we think it is neat that these guys are not just putting these trucks in museums but rather beating on them. Every one of their videos features a restored truck climbing, fording, or bogging through various types of terrain. Sure this big Benz doesn’t make much power and probably goes like 40mph but it’s tough, different, and any time we can watch three axles articulate in different directions we’re going to take advantage of it!
