So today may be Saturday but we’ve got some Friday photo business to wrap up. Actual competition starts on the Salt today as racers are able to make record qualifying runs. The real hero stuff begins tomorrow as the record return runs are made but the first cars to appear in the vaunted impound area at the Bonneville Salt Flats will materialize this morning.
Bonneville racers are amazing on many levels but the fact that most of them do this about once a year is the craziest thing. These guys and girls have the patience of Job to build these cars and then wait to run them until the time is right and the salt cooperates. It is not like drag racing where you can cruise to your local strip and make runs. Nope, this is a sport where you have to wait for the conditions to come to you. Just awesome!

All we need is for some eccentric billionaire to purchase a huge piece of land in Northumberland and either cover it with compacted sand or better still salt and hey presto – The Bonneville Of The North East.
Do you have any rich mates who can start the ball rolling Brian?
