All Hemi engines are not created equal. While we respect the early Gen I hemi, love the mighty 426 beast that reigned supreme from 1966-1971, and certainly have some good feelings for the Gen III engine that’s out now, there’s nothing quite like the 1964 race Hemi that really chucked gasoline on the fire of the muscle car era. These particular engines are exceptionally rare because they were beaten on, raced, and hammered to death back in the day. That’s why this is an incredible find.
This engine is virtually complete and has all the big stuff any restorer would want. Block, crank, rods, cross ram intake manifold, rocker shafts, K-cylinder heads, and more. If someone has a 1964 Chrysler factory race car that has an incorrect engine in it now, adding this beast would skyrocket the value.
So few of these were made it would be interesting to see if it could be tracked to a specific car or team, right? You KNOW this lump of iron has some stories to tell, for sure. The $23,000 the seller wants is likely a pittance compared to the value increase this could bring in the correct car. Amazing stuff.
