Cop Motors, Cop Tires: This Australian Bluesmobile Tribute Gets Down!

Cop Motors, Cop Tires: This Australian Bluesmobile Tribute Gets Down!

Let’s not get into a discussion about the difference between a 1974 Dodge Monaco and a later 1970s Chrysler Valiant. The Valiant platform is the basis of the bones that make up an Australian Charger, and while many tend to prefer the older E49-style nose, the later clip offers an oddly muscular look to the program. The Monaco, on the other hand, might have offered up all of the cop goodies, but it offered up the girth too, well over two tons before fuel or passengers. It also had the outer dimensions of the U.S.S. Ranger and a turning circle that would make a taxiing Boeing 747 look positively agile by comparison. That, and I’m pretty sure that a 1974 Monaco is extremely difficult to come by in Australia. Have you priced fuel over there? Do the math: $1.59 per litre, almost four litres per gallon, 25 gallons per tankful…how does $150 per tank in a big-ass American land barge sound to you?

Not that anybody is worried about fuel mileage with this Valiant. We’re thin on details with this car, but I’d suspect a 360-based build, gears and some kind of locker in the rear came together in this Bluesmobile tribute piece. We see a lot of burnout cars, but seeing Mopars on the skidpad isn’t a common sight, and that’s including the Mitsubishi models towards the end. In fact, we can only think of the “SKIDMA” Mitsubishi Sigma and “BLOKY”, the NASCAR-powered Valiant that straight-up screams. The livery is a touch cheesy, but if there was ever a perfect delivery method for the “We’re on a mission from God” line, it’s right here. Do the Lord’s work, lads!
