Hunt For Grunt! LS Torque Cams: Do You Know What Really Works?

Hunt For Grunt! LS Torque Cams: Do You Know What Really Works?

In this video from Richard Holdener, he lets you in on yet another round of dyno testing Speed Secrets in the never ending Hunt for Grunt. LS Engines aren’t particularly known for being torque monsters, but the right cam can certainly provide all the lb ft you desire. Since I’ve personally tested dozens and dozens of camshafts with Richard, and know he’s tested hundreds of them, I know he’s got the goods when it comes to choosing a cam for torque in your ls combo. Watch the latest video though and you’ll see what he’s talking about so you too can choose the right torque cam for your combination.

In this video you’ll get answers to questions on how does intake duration effect the torque production of both a 5.3 and 6.2 liter LS engine. And what about an LS3 cam in the 5.3? And what does Stage 1, 2, and 3 really mean? These are all covered in this latest video with the dyno graphs you are used to seeing so you know that the results are real, and that they are the result of insane numbers of camshafts being tested in the dyno cells at Westech Performance Group. The data Richard has gathered over the years, with all these tests, is why camshaft manufacturers often send him camshafts to test and compare. In fact, we’ve been on site when a pallet of cams, A PALLET, showed up for testing. I have to say, some of the most fun I’ve had in the dyno shop has been with Richard and Brule testing camshafts and intake manifolds. This kind of testing makes you smarter. It makes you think. It makes you learn and that is what this is all about. Lucky for you, Richard is all about sharing the info and wants to make sure the rest of the world gets to see the results he’s found.

So take a look at this torque cam test and comparison and let us know what you think. Did you choose the right cam for your project? Or is this going to change what you get for the next one?

I’m about to pull a travel trailer around for awhile and most of the time it’s below 3k rpm. I never see anyone addressing the lower range.
