Are They All The Same Motor Oil? What Are The Differences Between Regular, High Mileage, Etc? Four Types of SuperTech Motor Oil Compared

When the average person walks into an auto parts store, and visits the oil aisle, they are bombarded with brands, weights, and types of oil. Regular, synthetics, blends, high mileage, direct injection, you name it, there are so many descriptors and specs that it is hard to keep up. Many people walk in and choose the oil that is specified in their manual, some look at the terms high mileage and think it is just a gimmick. I know that I’ve often wondered what the difference really is between the different oils that claim to be for high mileage engines, those that claim to be able to go longer between oil changes, etc. I mean what is really different inside them?

When you look at the labels they are usually just full of marketing lingo and don’t really have any technical specifications or comparisons to go by. That’s why Project Farm is doing some testing. They used the same brand of oil, with just different grades or ratings. Check out the video below.

Video Description:

Let’s find out if SuperTech’s motor oil (5,000 mile, 10,000 mile, 10,000 High Mileage, and 20,000 mile) are the same oil. All four oils tested were sent to an independent oil lab for oil analysis. I tested oils for evaporative loss, lubricity or film strength, cold oil flow both new oil and after exposure to heat. Additionally, in a final test, the 20,000 mile oil is exposed to 10% gasoline to see the impact it has on lubricity or oil performance. I always buy all of the products tested to ensure unbiased test results. So, thank you for supporting the channel.
