Amazing Photos Of Vintage Aircraft At Planes Of Fame Museum in SoCal

Amazing Photos Of Vintage Aircraft At Planes Of Fame Museum in SoCal

Photos by Mike and Jeff Burghardt

If you are a gear head worth your aerosol brake cleaner there are a lot of opportunities out there to get your juices flowing.  Whether it’s a muscle car, truck, boat or train – we are usually consumed by the sound, the smell, how it works or how fast it goes. The yearly Airshow at the Planes of Fame Air Museum at Chino Airport in Southern California features nearly four dozen historic aircraft, performing in the air for the thousands of fans who enjoy the beauty and majesty of the Air Force that fought to protect our country and won war battles all over the world.

One of the items on my list are older airplanes and an appreciation for the dedication it takes to find parts, the incredible time to restore and the enormous expense to complete a project like a restored WWII airplane.  There’s no aircraft parts warehouse for re-popped parts as there is for restoring an Impala, Mustang or Barracuda.  It’s often a labor-intensive, wild goose chase with lots of dead ends and a few occasional victories on the way to saving one of these relics of the air – truly a labor of love.

The yearly Airshow at the Planes of Fame Air Museum at Chino Airport in Southern California features nearly four dozen historic aircraft, performing in the air for the thousands of fans who enjoy the beauty and majesty of the air force that fought to protect our country and won war battles all over the world.  These are survivors, lovingly restored by the people who flew and maintained them as well as new gear heads who are an important part of the long, tedious process of getting the airplanes back into the air again for all to enjoy.  There was a pretty cool static display of tanks, troop carriers and jeeps, too!

Fortunately at BangShift.com we’ve got some cool photographers like Jeff and Mike Burghardt from northern California, a father and son team who love planes, trains, aircraft carriers, automobiles and racecars –  they shoot some awesome photos of all of the above.

There are photos of the controversial Lockheed Martin F-22, a single-seat, twin-engine fifth-generation, supersonic, supermaneuverable fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology, not often seen in the air.  The plane flies upside down, backwards, vertical take off and landing and does some crazy stuff.

The planes that helped win World War II are strongly represented at this show as well as some of pilots who few them.  Those incredibly fast and pricy P-51 Mustangs now used at many airshows for oval pylon racing were well represented.

The Burghardt’s photography of the Planes of Fame Air Museum show at Chino Airport will probably make you wish you’d been there.  If you see an airshow scheduled near you, get up early to get a good vantage point, airshows are happening all over the country now that summer is here.  You’ll have a great time, no matter what planes are on display or in the air!

Their collection of Axis jet and rocket planes is probably the best in the world outside of the Smithsonian

8 to 10 million or 20 to 70 million. I ain’t got it so it might as well be a billion. 🙂

Nothing like the smell of burnt avgas to get the blood pumpin. I’m a member of a small flight museum . Our highest performance plane thats flightworthy right now is a harvard trainer and the cost of keeping that plane in the air is outrageous
