Hustling Hemi: This 1969 Dart Has 540ci Of Mean Chrysler Elephant Under The Hood

There are few things more cosmically right in the automotive world than a late 1960s Chrysler A-body with huge slicks on the back and a hemi in the nose. This car is all of that and more and frankly, we’re in love. This machine is not a typical class car, instead it is set up to compete in the NMCA’s Nostalgia Super Stock class. That’s a really neat place to race because you get the best of a few worlds.

For starters, you see loads of awesome period correct muscle cars that are running the “right” engine in them. The drapes have to match the carpet meaning if you have a Buick, you need to have a Buick engine. If you have a Chrysler, it needs to be a Chrysler engine. The twist is that it is index racing, not heads-up or dial in style competition in traditional super stock. This rules because you get to pick an index you want to run, you can build an engine and a combo that you can afford, and you do not have to bankrupt yourself trying to build some sort of a bleeding edge, killer engine. So long as you can run the index, you are in business.

This car looks really, really nice. It is flawlessly clean, the chassis is nicely constructed, and the launch photos show that it’ll be an e-ticket ride for anyone who decides to strap into the seat. With a single four barrel carb, the car runs 9.50s at more than 140mph. What’s to complain about that?!

You don’t have to be any sort of a Moparphile to love this car and want some time behind the wheel. It really IS that cool. It’s not cheap but then again, it IS turnkey.

Keep an eye on all of your rear suspension with that set up, solid welding to X out your rear suspension puts a lot of stress on that front passenger side rod end, I learned this in a very hard way

Nice car but I think Mike Crow\’s 69 small block car has to be my all time favorite Mopar.
