(Photos by Joe Grippo) – As we continue to work through Joe Grippo’s massive collection of photos from the 2015 FE Race and Reunion at Beaver Springs Dragway one thing keeps coming up. Wagons. There are more awesome big block Ford wagons assembled in these photos than we have ever seen in our lives! Where is all this stuff hiding? Do they travel in packs? We’re kidding of course but there are few things cooler than seeing vintage steel like this of the longroof variety tuned up and hammering the strip. If you have never visited the comfy confines of Beaver Springs Dragway you are doing yourself a disservice. The track is run by Beaver Bob who lives on the property and it is a great strip. Old school in virtually every sense, there’s a wide grass runoff before you get to a guardrail and the classic red, white, and blue BSD pole at the starting line is a throwback that we enjoy.
We’re not sure if Beaver Bob still has the “no crybabies” sign on the door of the tower, but we appreciated that when we saw it for ourselves a few years ago. Grippo says that this event will be happening again next spring and because of its ever increasing popularity, there may actually be MORE station wagons there next year. With all that weight, the place may sink into the ground but we’re willing to risk it.
