(Photos by Bryan McTaggart) – We know people who have attended every single Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion ever put on at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Why do they do it? Like most things, people like rituals. Whether it is the ritual of being in line on that first morning to get through the gate, maybe seeing people you only get to hang out with once a year, or maybe it is the course of the whole weekend. Partying at the Holiday Inn on Friday night, having your eyes water and nose run from the nitro on Saturday at the Cacklefest, getting a lemonade and sitting under the covered stands that have made Beech Bend so famous, etc. All of these things are a big deal and rightfully so.
We’ve been going for years and thankfully this year we have McTaggart on the ground (as well as Doug Gregory and you’ll see his stuff as well) to load the coffers with photos from the show area, the strip, and the mania known as the Holiday Inn. That is a road that will literally never need to be striped again. There’s rubber in that thing that won’t be lifted for 100 years. Hot rodders!
