(Photos by Wes Allison) – As someone who considers himself a fair well rounded guy, I know that there is no perfect place to live. Everywhere has its faults whether they be weather related, geographic related, or politically minded, nowhere’s perfect. I grew up as a kid listening to a lot of Beach Boys songs, reading car magazines, and fantasizing about being in Southern California. I’m not going to lie to you fair reader, I still get a little extra bounce in my step when visiting SoCal. I know, some of you live there and have the right to complain about every crappy thing that happens in the area but I’m just good time Charlie, in and out before reality sets in.

Drag racing at Pomona, an activity that basically takes place twice a year now is cool. The place is mammoth with regard to seating capacity, the track is famously, umm, “truncated”, and it runs downhill, and there’s all kinds of other weird stuff but it’s freaking Pomona! All of the great stuff that has happened there over the years, the history, the triumph, and awesomeness. It’s alive and you can feel it in the ground of the place.
