The historical record will tell us that Jack Beckman won the 2018 Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals but it won’t tell us the full story of an insane weekend in the funny car category. From John Force’s continued struggles to the “double blow up” run we showed you yesterday, Tim Wilkerson spinning a donut at the top end, and Cruz Pedregon blowing one up in olympic fashion, it was non-stop crazy. There were other incidents too like JR Todd’s parachute’s firing on the burnout, and underdog teams winning round one that kept things interesting.
What’s odd about all this stuff is the fact that the engines below all suffered issues that were different. It was not the same thing that got all of them . Wilkerson’s deal at the end of the track is one of the strangest we have ever seen. The run was over for multiple seconds and then all of a sudden BAM and he turns into a stunt driver, spinning the car out on purpose to keep it off the walls.
If you really want to drive a nitro funny car, you’ve got screws loose. One glimpse into the fury of these videos will give you a clear indication of exactly what these men and women are facing every time they level the gas pedal!

NHRA mandated engine controls are killing more engines and cars than just random tuning mistakes or parts failure ever did. If Big Brother, NHRA wants to slow the cars down then this is not the way to do it. Are they gonna kill someone before they wise up? This is insanity, defined and illustrated. Dinging drivers points for going over the centerline is another dumb-ass rule they also just came up with. Who thinks this crap up? I am so done with NHRA…..they suck!
