2019 NHRA New England Nationals Photos: Scenes From The Pits On A Serene Sunday Morning

(Photos by Dave Nutting) – I am an early riser by nature. I like to get to the track early, eat lunch early, basically that’s my life. Dave Nutting is the same way, so when he got to New England Dragway on Sunday at the 2019 NHRA New England Nationals, he was there in the most quiet and interesting part of the day. When the pre-race ceremonies take place, when the first pair fires up, the day takes on an air of intensity that cannot really be explained. But morning in the pits? It’s zen-like.

You’ll see the parts, pieces, tools, and people that are required to run a nitro burning drag race car at the highest level in this photo collection. They are all quietly waiting for the moment to arrive when the work day officially starts. When the car is warmed up and hauled to the staging lanes for the first round. Will that fresh rack of pistons need to be used today? They all hope so. Will those wrenches come off the magnetic holder multiple times? If everyone does their job right they store will.

These are fun photos. Quiet drag racing photos. Photos of armies just before the fight.

Yessir, those are additional fuel nozzles to firehose more nitromethane into the engine when the engine is really working. They have check-valves that only allow the fuel to flow once it exceeds the pressure of the spring in the valve.
