Drag Racing Cinema: This 2019 US Nationals Video Is An Incredible And Beautiful Look Inside The Race

Now THIS is some drag racing cinema. It is insulting to call this a “video” because it is so much more than that. A wonderful, intense, professional, comprehensive, and unflinching look at the 2019 NHRA US Nationals all wrapped up into a package about six minutes long.

Corey Michalek is the brains behind this film and it has been fun to watch his progression as a creator and as a filmmaker in drag racing over the last several years. You may remember “The Top Fuel Experience” which was his first high profile effort and it was a show stopper. Since then he has refined his process and he has continued to grow as a filmmaker. The way that he takes us through qualifying and through eliminations, through the pits, and to the drivers in this story is awesome. The interspersed voice over and then the use of the race calls is cool (and it has nothing to do with who is making them, trust me). Overall, this is about as well rounded an effort as you are going to see in covering a race that lasts the better part of a week and has the intensity of gun battle by the time it is all said and done.

The NHRA US Nationals is an event beyond compare and was recently placed on a “Top 10 races in the world” list by a well known racing journalist who concentrates his efforts on NASCAR mostly. It crosses to that level and when you see this film you get that immensity right through your screen. The excitement, the heartbreak, the success, and the failure. The work, and the quiet time, it is all here and it is all great.

Congrats to Corey Michalek and @React104 for this film. It’s another step on a trip he has been taking us on for years. We cannot wait to see what’s next!

Top notch production values , take note NHRA . Just think if this could have been done at the 1972 Supernationals , that would have been awesome .

When we first started this NHRA it was about amateurs guys just having fun working on your car and racing for fun , and it was great fun. Then came the magazine the advertising the sponsors who have destroyed the amature of the sport and making it big business. I could care less about the sport today as it is all about big money and advertising the common everyday kid can no longer be a part of the sport.
