(Photos by Wes Allison) – There’s just something about getting a load of hot rodders together and having fun that beats all, right? David Freiburger knows that and it’s why after some weird decision making left the fate of the former Roadkill Zip-Tie Drags hanging in the ether, he stepped up and worked with a drag strip to keep the flame alive. Helping them promote the same kind of down home hot rodding kept the magic alive. The 2021 Duct Tape Drags came as the result of the ideas embodied in the OG Zip Tie events and his great relationship with Tucson Dragway, which has served as the backdrop to many passes, many adventures, and much fun over the years.
The event was a smash hit. Cars came from all over the country and people had a blast. There was drag racing, a burnout pit, and the kind of relaxed fun time atmosphere that so many events can only dream of having. Along with Freiburger there was Steve Dulcich, Finnegan, and other characters from the wrenching universe there to give encouragement, bust chops, and generally enjoy themselves on a beautiful fall weekend at the drags.
As you’ll see, the variety of cars was mind boggling and we’re just scratching the surface here. We have days and days of photos to share. The end result? You’ll be wanting to enjoy the madness for yourself in 2022! Check out this first batch of photos and just try not to smile. We dare you.
