Alex Taylor Is Aiming For The 6’s In A Street Car, But It Won’t Be In Her Camaro

Alex Taylor has been going quicker and quicker in her leaf sprung, street driven, twin turbo LS powered Badmaro these past couple of years, but when she decided that she wanted to really step it up it quickly became clear that something more purpose built for big speed and small ETs was in order. And so a new project was born. Sitting out back behind the family shop was a ’55 Chevy that had bad floors and some other rot, but pretty cool patina. The only reason it had been purchased originally was to use the stock chassis under a customer’s car. But that meant that this 1955 Body was the perfect candidate for a full tube chassis build with a serious goal of running in the 6 second zone.

She’s been working on it for several weeks, in pursuit of a finish date that lets her run in at Rocky Mountain Race Week this year and we’re pretty sure that her and her dad Dennis will pull it off. After all, they get way more done that most could believe. The body is in need of blasting and sheet metal work before the rest can happen, and that is what you are going to see in the videos below. We’ll get to the chassis work soon as well.

    I have been following this build since they started. It is coming along pretty quick for a car being built in their spare time. I like the looks of the car as well. With Dennis’ experience and Alex’s energy, it is going to be a real fun build to follow.

    Gonna take a TON of power to push this billboard into the 6’s. Just ask Jeff Lutz, he built a new car (‘05ish) GTO using the same drivetrain as his yellow shoebox Chevy. As I recall the new car picked up almost 20 MPH trap speed over his ‘56 due to the improved aero. ‘55-57 Chevy are still bitchin hot rods but above about 150 mph in a racecar that billboard sized front end really becomes a hindrance. That’s why most every serious shoebox race cars run the sloped pro mid still front clip.
