Vintage Speed Parts Find: The IronTrap Gang Found An Ardun Hemi Headed Flatty And Are Making It Run!

I’m lucky enough to know some folks who race Ardun headed flathead Fords at Bonneville and can tell you that these are some seriously cool cylinder heads that can make a Flathead actually make power. If you aren’t familiar, they replace the factory flat head with an overhead valve head like those that would become the norm in the latter half of the 1950’s. What makes these Ardun heads special though is not just the fact that they are a more modern overhead valve design, but also that they feature a hemispherical combustion chamber. They are Hemi heads!

Or maybe we should say that Hemi heads are Arduns…hmmmm

Yeah, that’s right. Ardun heads were developed in England during WWII. They were first marketed in the United States in 1947, which is 4 years before the Chrysler Hemi came to market. So the Ardun overhead valve conversion, which featured hemispherical combustion chambers in their cylinder heads, were the first V8 hemis and that makes them ultra cool in our book.

So when we saw this video from Matt and the crew at IronTrap Garage we knew we had to share. They have scored a blown Ardun combo and are making it run again. Watch.
