You are going to love this video if you like Tim McAmis, because he has a ton of typical Tim McAmis one liners that will have you laughing. And this isn’t just a video telling you what grade of bolt to put into your chassis, but also proper lengths, shanks, etc. There is a lot going on in our typical race chassis and if you have the wrong bolts and nuts you are in danger of damaging the chassis, mounting points, and brackets. I have to say, there are several things he brings up in this video that I hadn’t thought about and should have.
Again, there is the levity you expect from Tim, but with a lot of really good information, visual examples, and reasons for each and every bit of knowledge he’s sharing. And it’s free, from one of the premier race chassis builders in the world, so you should pay attention and see how many things you’ve got wrong in your chassis right now so you can fix them before you have a real problem. Or, if you are getting ready to assemble your own ride then make sure you are using the right stuff from the get go.
And don’t think this info is just for drag racers. While Tim’s chassis are drag cars, the hardware specs and info given here are applicable to any chassis configuration.
I’ve watched several of his videos, and the fact that he speaks his mind with no filters is the exact reason why I pay attention to what he says. I bet he’s saved more than one person in the sport from going down the wrong path.
Having worked in the ( fastener ) industry for several years he is right on point !
I used to do a workshop at a few local high schools trying to educate kids on what to look for rather than grab what ever they could find at the corner store or box lumber yard .
The Hardest Point to get across to people is to Throw Away Used Fasteners …
re using a bolt or nut does not save money in the long run …
Sadly its getting harder and harder to find quality Fasteners .but if you ask around you will be directed to your towns ( real ) supplier
Mcmaster & Carr’s website will blow your mind with what they have available !
Always good info from Tim. Always drive me crazy to see cheap ass low grade, wrong shoulder length bolts in suspension components.
