Traditional hot rods, like those built in the 1930’s, 1940’s, and 1950’s really were simple machines. Part of that is because there were not a ton of speed parts manufacturers like today and part is because the technology was so simple then. One of the things I usually like on a traditional hot rod is the way that wiring and plumbing are handled. Because there isn’t much of either one, they look super clean under the hood. And whether your hot rod is traditional, or a more modern muscle car, spark plug wires have always been one of those things that just don’t look great or stand out regardless of what you do to them. But there were some cool ideas going on back in the day and this video from Bennett’s Customs is drawing on the old for inspiration and making a really cool looking, and super functional, spark plug wire holder setup for a small block Ford. You could build a set like this for virtually any engine with spark plug wires that need to get from a distributor to the plugs and I dig it. Check it out.
Video Description:
On this episode we take some notes from Henry Ford himself- The iconic and much loved Ford Flathead V8 have always looked very atheistically pleasing due to many details, one of those details is the simple way to hold and organise the spark plug wires. Some scrap stainless and some references from the factory ford wire holders we create some pleasing holders for ‘Black Sunrise’. These are the details that I love! The small, but impactful pieces of the puzzle. Thanks to Rick at Noble Speed Equipment for the spark plug wires, boots, and nickel plated covers that set this above the rest!
