Power Move: Bob Tasca III Adds Mike Green As Co-Crew Chief On Ford Motorcraft/Quicklane Mustang

Power Move: Bob Tasca III Adds Mike Green As Co-Crew Chief On Ford Motorcraft/Quicklane Mustang

Bob Tasca III’s return to full time nitro powered NHRA drag racing had its moments in 2018 but just not enough of them for the Rhode Islander with championship aspirations. Because of this, Tasca has made some changes within his organization and brought in some new talent.

Replacing the outgoing Nick Casertano (who we understand has landed at the Cruz Pedregon Racing Snap-On operation) will be veteran tuner Mike Green, a crew chief that has served as a pillar of the Don Schumacher Racing organization for years. Green was relieved of his duties at DSR, making him a free agent, and in Tasca’s eyes the perfect compliment to Eric Lane who served and will continue to serve as the leader on the car.

Lane has been in the funny car business for many years working at John Force racing and then finding a longtime home at DSR most successfully working as Rahn Tobler’s right hand man on the NAPA funny car. Those two combined for a championship in 2016 with Ron Capps as their driver. Green has two championships as a crew chief under his belt in the top fuel ranks. Both of those came with Tony Schumacher at the wheel in 2009 and 2014. With an established relationship and loads of experience, these two could make a formidable team. Tasca’s car started to show strong teeth at the end of the 2018 campaign when the team, knowing that they had missed the NHRA Countdown to the Championship entered a more aggressive testing phase of their year.

With a new 2019 Mustang body on the way from Ford and these two guys in his corner, Tasca’s “win now” attitude may get some fulfillment sooner rather than later.

2019 Mustang? Please, it’s a computer designed, wind tunnel tested piece of carbon fiber, not a Mustang, just like every other funny car in the field. And Tasca will never be a champion.
