The Art Of Small Tire Racing: This Cinematic Look At Light Out 10 Is Stunning In Every Way

Jake Simmons is a freaking bad ass. Let’s just get that right out of the way. He is the guy who shot this film and put it all together and it really is a piece of drag racing artistry that you have to see to believe. Jake is the guy who shoots a ton of stuff for our pal Bobby Bennett at CompetitionPlus.com.

When you see the cool highlight videos that we run or the summations of eliminations or qualifying from events, that’s the works of Jake. The dude is seemingly 16 places at once and yet he still manages to stop into the tower to nip on some of the fan donated moonshine that we have and other frivolity in the building. All the while he’s doing double duty because out of that work comes this art and we like a splashy headline around here but this is truly one of the neatest hunks of drag racing film work that we have seen in a long time.

Not because of tricks or technology, or some gadgets, but because through film this piece tells the story of the race. It shows the event in is violent, overpacked, hectic, frenetic glory. The great runs, the aborted passes, the mania of the starting line area, and the agony of engine failures, and mechanical problems.

The best part about this film is that it does all this without ever leaving the race track and without ever getting int the way of itself. Guys who are really good at this stuff know when just enough is perfect. Jake clearly knows that and lives by it because this is a video slice of drag racing heaven.
