Thanks to Chris Chenlo, we have this totally sweet ‘Cuda to show you that is currently for sale on Craigslist. The car has apparently been for sale for some time as we did some rooting around to learn more about it and essentially ended with more questions than answers. We’ll explain. The seller claims that this is a real factory R-code Hemi ‘Cuda but shows no photos of the fender tag that would give a little validity to the claim. In the ad the seller talks about how this car was raced by the “lengendary Earnest Montgomery”. That’s a guy so legendary, we can’t find a lick of information on him from anywhere. The car is bitchin’ even if it were never raced by anyone of note and if it is not a factory hemi car, it is still a cool old racer with the right looks, a four speed, and that big beautiful elephant motor bolted in front.
You’ll note a few things. The first is the 1980s spec Alston decal which is pretty cool. The next you can see in the photo of the rear of the car and that is the fact that the word “adios” is misspelled. The painter added the U for unknown reasons so it reads, “adious”. The car was originally painted Plum Crazy purple according to the seller and that paint is visible in a couple of the photos. The current paint job on the car is pretty thorough for a race car job. The whole machine had to have been blown apart when it was painted judging by the job in the engine compartment.
Probably the most intriguing part of the story is the car’s early years. The seller claims that this car was an export vehicle that was shipped to a Pakistan “embacy boy”. We’re not sure if that means a diplomat’s kid, or what, but if true this car has seen things that no other ‘Cuda on the planet has. The to Pakistan and back from Pakistan along with actually “living” in that country for a time in the 1970s gives this baby an air of international mystery that few other muscle cars on the planet ever could attain.
In case the ad gets pulled, here’s the full text:
CRAIGSLIST LINK: A 1970 HEMI CUDA DRAG CAR WITH AMAZING HISTORY
How about no? Does no work for you?
No broadcast sheet, warranty replacement block(I hope), ragged shape and 85 large makes this one way out there.
IF a fender tag proves export, FC7 In Violet (NOT Plum Crazy) maybe worth 35K in it’s current shape, depending on who rebuilt the engine. Big difference between a Ray Barton rebuild, and Vern over at the shade tree.
haha you are funny.. if it’s solid. and he has doc’s to back up the story.. hahaha at that 35 k..
For 15K more than the asking price of this one, you could plunk down your Benjamin’s on this one;

Makes more sense to me.
Chrysler didn’t warranty Hemi cars. The knew the only reason anyone bought one.
Did it even cross your mind that the “lengendary Earnest Montgomery” could’ve been a racer in Pakistan (maybe a soldier) And might explain the mis speeling
if it’s a real hemi code I’d not post a photo on Craig’s list either.. As it get used in scan ad’s .. (rule #1 on that type cars,)
cool car.. even if it’s not a factory hemi..
Or he was a local racer at Capitol Raceway in the DC area that no one else has ever heard of.
Scratch that, he was the Pakistani Pro Stock Champ six years running!
you always can be a lengend in your own mind… you remember every racers “car tag line” from ned?? ofcource not.. maybe spend some time going over it and do a follow up blog.. it’s not like there isn’t any members in that state that could go look…
Any chance of getting ahold of the sponsor on the 1/4 for some back story
There was no reason for an American to buy a car from overseas back then. That’s what jumps out at me.
Chad,
Often American military personnel ordered cars through the military PX (post exchange) system, the cars would often be waiting for them upon their return from deployments.
The practice still continues to this day.
As an “export” car it could also be from Canada, as the cars sold here are considered export by most Americans. Somebody has pics of that car somewhere.
I love it! Keep us posted if more proof or info turns up.
$85,000 seems a little steep of this car. Even if it is what the guy claims it to be. He’s been watching to much Barrett Jackson.
