Craigslist Find: The Most Unintentionally Comedic Listing Ever (Not Even Including the 1973 MG Rat Rod)

Craigslist Find: The Most Unintentionally Comedic Listing Ever (Not Even Including the 1973 MG Rat Rod)

Powermaster’s Brady Basner has the hot hand on Craigslist. I don’t know how he does it but the man is able to find gems left, right, and center each week on the world’s biggest yard sale. Granted, none of the stuff is remotely good. It is all pretty jacked up, sad, or weird in its own way, but the guy has an innate ability to strike gold at any moment. The guy’s computer is like the Sutter’s Mill of Craigslist. But I’m off the rails here and this is before we really go off the rails by showing you the ad and the 1963 MG Rat Rod that is featured in it.

The formula for American V8 into small British car has been part of the lexicon of the automotive world for a long, long time. Sydney Allard, Carroll Shelby, the Griffith, Sunbeam Tiger, and on and on. The idea at that point was to take advantage of a capable chassis and really put the lumber to it with a strong engine. The builder of this 1973 MG had that same basic idea but did it in such a way as to completely desecrate any semblance of dignity the little English car had. All gone. The engine is a 289 Ford which has a set of “headers” attached to it, a four barrel on top, and the motor is backed by a three speed transmission. This appears to be a three speed stick but we can’t 100% verify the presence of a clutch pedal in the foot box of the car. The rear end, which would have been a real bitch to narrow, and frankly who needs that hassle? Yeah, that’s a Ford nine inch with fresh stoppers on the ends. The body is a 1973 MG…or it was before being violated in ways even a 50 Shades of Gray novel hasn’t described yet.

All these things being said, the true beauty of this ad, is the ad itself. We present to you the highlights:

new p275/60r15 turbo tec rear tires – Yep, he went for the Turbo Tec tires. Why? Because brand name labels are for chumps.

runs like a scolded dog outta hell – Yep, he said scolded dog outta hell. Why? Because school is for fools.

new summit roker arms – Yep, he said….you know what the hell the man said.

So….in summation, literacy is overrated and this thing is probably overpriced.

    gotta love the fact there’s only 3 lugnuts on the rear wheel, nothing like putting safety first…

  2. jimmy neckbone

    you think he built those header/sidepipes if so he should be making them as his full time job there totally trick ass

  3. Tom Campanelli

    The new rear brakes & hardware look to be the most expensive parts on the whole thing. It’s a shame the builder doesn’t have a friend that would tell him;
    ” You are building a giant turd, please push it to the junkyard instead of embarrassing yourself on Craigslist”.

    –southern engineering, have a MGB V8, a little different then this one, the split rear bumper is actually rare
