Cruz Pedregon Picks His Top 5 Funny Cars – Which Cars Made The Cut? Some Good History Here

If your last name is Pedregon, you’re going to be a drag racer. One of the sport’s great legacy families their patriarch was known as a scrappy, hard running, bucks down guy who made a name for himself doing more with less. Tony and Cruz both rose to the rank of NHRA champion in the funny car category and Frank, while out of the sport for a while has also made many runs in funny car competition as well. As Tony has become part of the NHRA television package and Cruz is still out there pounding the pavement week in and week out, it only makes sense that Louis Bloom of the NHRA would have caught up with Cruz in the pits at the Good Vibrations March Meet at Bakersfield, California. Cruz was there racing his gorgeous California Charger nostalgia funny car on a Mello Yello tour off weekend.

As you will see, Cruz has some good picks for his top five funny cars. We have enjoyed this series where the drivers are making their picks because it is a little window into their personality as each guy has had different picks. As Pedregon has literally lived the sport for his entire life, he has interesting perspective into his picks and what made them stand out in his mind.

We hope that Louis is able to wrangle one of the younger funny car drivers to get their choices as well. It will be interesting to see what they have to say because their choices would come from an era where the drivers had more identity than the cars did as the sport has evolved over the years. Wow! No “swoopie” bodies on those 70’s era cars. I didn’t see any header cut outs, or giant spoilers. Even Cruzs’ personal nostalgia car is correct. Why would NHRA let people put a pro mod body on a funny car and call it nostalgia? Thanks NHRA, you’re as usual the racers biggest problem!
