Customs and Hot Rods of Andice Is Building An Insane, Steel, 1950 Mercury Coupe For Drag Week!

(Photos John Jackson/Good-guys.com) – In the realm of “HOLY CRAP THIS IS AWESOME”, the 1950 Mercury coupe that Customs and Hot Rods of Andice is building for Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week rules it all. This all-steel car will be powered by a 3,000 horsepower turbocharged big block Chevy style engine that is being built by Nelson Racing Engines. The crew over at Goodguys got the scoop. If that seems weird, it isn’t.

See, Customs and Hot Rods of Andice aren’t as well known for building drag cars as they are for building incredible hot rods. These guys built a 1939 Olds that won the Ridler Award and the Goodguys Street Rod of the Year award as well. Taking that level of skill and talent and pouring it into a Drag Week car is something else.

Of course when people see this thing they are going to start thinking about the series of “Ironhorse” machines campaigned in the 1990s by car owner Johnny Rocca. Those were fiberglass 1951 Mercury coupes. People should not forget Steve Hall’s car, which was also a classic Mercury coupe that had a big blown alky burning engine in it.

As cool as those cars were, they never drove on the street and they were full on pro-mods that’ll likely look slow as compared to this monster.
