Transmission Zen Time: This Guided Tour Of The Disassembly Of An All-Original 1970s Turbo400 Transmission Rules

There’s nothing cooler than watching a master at work. Well, as the internet has discovered Richard at Precision Transmissions is one of those masters. The dude is an absolute genius with automatic transmissions and it’s so fun to both watch him work and also listen to him narrate the work as he does it. He’s got an easy going manner and all the knowledge one could possibly have in their head about transmissions.

This video is great because it deals with a familiar topic, the classic GM Turbo400 three-speed automatic. It also deals with an all-original 50 year old example that has never been taken apart. This customer has a classic truck that he’s tweaking on and wanted the transmission done and a Gear Vendors added to the back for some overdrive fun. We have no idea how many miles are on this thing but as it comes apart, it sure seems to have been taken care of. There’s not a lot of excessive wear or damage to speak of so that’s a good thing.

Richard is a bad ass because the way he speaks about the parts and pieces as he is showing them off and inspecting them is educational. Also, the guy is a whiz with his tools and is clearly enjoys what he is doing. He talks about loving the fact that this is a factory unmolested transmission and mentions that it is going to be a fun, relaxing, rebuilt. We love it all.
