That being said, I can’t imagine many of you are still driving VW Beetles. If you are and find yourself with the need to change out the belt and for some reason can’t shut the car off, then this might be one option. Or maybe your entire toolbox contains only a screwdriver. Perhaps a bar bet is involved. In any case, watch this vid for entertainment purposes only and for the love of all things that involve your fingers, your ability to reproduce, and your George Kostanza like hand model mitts….DON’T TRY THIS YOURSELF.
Judging by the look of the guy’s screwdriver in this video he has done this or had attempted to do this many times in the past. You can see the myriad of ways that the whole operation could go bad on your before you know it and having to live the rest of your life with the nickname, “Ol’ screwdriver chest” may sound good in the movies but it won’t be too fun for you. We promise.
He sure made it look easy? But I think I’ll stick with your warning!
How many skinned knuckles/broken fingers were part of the learning curve?
I have owned/worked on air cooled VWs for a while now and I have never once considered even attempting such a thing. Crazy.
Sorry, but this is stupid. What’s the point of such a dumb thing?
Because you don’t have an extra 90 seconds to shut the thing off and loosen the bolt properly? Really?
