We think we know “right” when we see it and this Willys is flipping RIGHT. Maybe it is weird to say but we think really good Willys coupes are few and far between in the world. While we enjoy pro street style Willys, street rod style Willys, and the “more of a street freak than a gasser Willys” there is nothing that can touch a car like this in our eyes. Yes, this is a fiberglass body and if that is a major sticking point with you, seek medical attention to be cured of the disease known as “dink-itis”. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, you’d really have to be a piece of work to look at this car and find actual fault with the fact that it is not made of steel. The fit an finish is amazing, the color is awesome, and the stance is actual period goodness. Oh…and then there’s the engine.
There’s no power figure given for the 572ci hemi that powered this blazing orange beauty but we’re thinking that it is more than enough to make the beam axle Willys a handful on the street and the strip. The transmission is a 727 Torqueflite, so the shifting duties can be handled by the car. That is a good thing because stabbing and steering will be the order of the day as it smokes the tires for a length of a city block. Leaf spring suspension up front and ladder bar style in the rear are cool and functional as the seller claims that the car hooks hard at the strip. no elapsed times are given so we’re not all that certain about how hard it actually runs. The price is not low, that is for sure. The seller is looking to get $72,900 out of the car. Breaking down the time on the body, drivetrain, interior, etc, the $72k actually makes some sense.
So what do you think? Is the car good enough to justify the price?
