ECTA Ohio (Half) Mile Action Photos – Land Speed Racing Under The Ohio Sun

(Photos by David Whealon) – A little bit of history went down in the small burg of Wilmington, Ohio last weekend as the ECTA held their first ever half mile land speed event on the same course where their typical mile events are contested. The small but hearty band of racers that came to the first time half mile meet were greeted with great track conditions and the lack of long lines when they wanted to run. There were lots of late model muscle cars as well as a bunch of really fast motorcycles.

Scott E Jones was the first rider over 200 for the weekend, recording a speed of 201 on Saturday but it was Ransom Holbrook that really thundered to the top with a clocking of 206.8 in the half mile. Bob Hustler who was operating the yellow Ford Probe below was happy with the Jesel Dodge NASCAR engine combo and he may have floated the whole way down.

Lastly, the meet got cut short because of weather on Sunday but the lower than normal turnout on Saturday meant lots of runs for competitors on an open track all day Saturday. It was a fun weekend with some unique and fast stuff. David Whealon shot it all for your viewing pleasure here !
