ETHANOL: Higher OCTANE, Higher RISK? Does E85 Makes Sense In Your Daily Driver VS Your Race Car?

E85 is good stuff, there is no doubt. I’ve run it in boosted applications for drag and drive cars, and know lots of other folks who do the same. With that said, my cars and trucks that utilize it feature stand alone EFI systems and are configured so that if I can’t get e85 then they will run on pump gas going down the road with little or no boost. E85 is an effective high octane fuel for lots of applications, but not all of them, even if many OE vehicles will run on it in order to qualify as lower emissions vehicles.
