IS AN AFTERMARKET CHASSIS WORTH IT? FINNEGAN IS BODY SWAPPING HIS 1957 CHEVY GASSER.

Body swap, chassis swap, whichever you call it, it involves putting a car onto a new chassis either for repair, a performance improvement, or both. I did my first in 2005 when I swapped my 1956 Chevy Bel Air station wagon onto a 1994 Caprice 9C1 chassis. It had almost no floors left in it, so I cut the floors out of the Caprice and slid the ’56 body down over it. But most folks don’t go to that level. Most do what Finnegan is about to do, and buy a new chassis that “bolts in”.

So why is Finnegan doing a chassis swap on his 1957 Chevrolet Gasser Wagon project? I mean why not just weld or bolt in a solid axle kit and call it a day? Let’s see what is going on, why the stock chassis won’t work, and what kind of performance improvement he’s expecting.
