The Performance Racing Industry Show 2017 is being hailed by many industry insiders as the largest in the 30 year history of the event. The guys and girls at MAHLE Motorsport were inhabiting their usual hunk of Indiana Convention Center real estate and it was filled with loads of cool stuff. We were drawn to the piston display and once we got over there we learned about some of the new products that the company has been working on.
The company’s new HV385 piston rings are an exciting addition to an already stellar lineup. MAHLE has achieved an increase in sealing capacity while also building a product that is thinner, lighter, and reduces drag in the cylinder. All of the company’s famed PowerPak pistons will be using this HV385 ring packages. Outside of the previously mentioned benefits, the new ring technology allows engineers more flexibility in piston design and a vastly increased number of applications with an uninterrupted oil ring groove. For the end user it also means far easier installation of the rings as well. That’s always a win in our book.
MAHLE has expanded its offerings of LS pistons with a line of domed slugs for drag racers looking to make big compression, they are offering more pistons for performance diesel applications as well. Below you will see a steel Cummins piston as well as several aluminum MAHLE diesel pistons. We understand that there will be more news coming for diesel offerings in the 2018 year.
These guys never sleep!
