Moonbeam: This 1965 Ford Ranchero Straight-Up Gets It!

Moonbeam: This 1965 Ford Ranchero Straight-Up Gets It!

Action might be a little thin on the ground once again, but the Southeast Gassers Association have had no issue getting around and making a bit of noise. Some of our favorite racing comes from this legion of straight-axle screamers…the redline is merely a suggestion, the front end is only there to stabilize the car until the clutch is dumped, and the overall vibe is years removed from it’s origins. It’s difficult to not be transported back to a different time when you see a car like this purple 1965 Ford Ranchero rolling up to the line. Slot mags on fat slicks, fenderwell headers, and a violent driving style are all staples of the game, but seeing a 17-year-0ld in action ripping gears with the best of them is worthy of kudos. Colby Welch is the driver behind “Moonbeam” and he’s in the mix in B/Gas, holding his own. The backup girl is his older sister Riley, who has a Paxton-blown Slant Six Dart that she races when she isn’t in school.

Don’t worry, the future will turn out all right.
