NASCAR Nitrous Party: Cleetus Takes The Dale Truck To The Dragstrip!

NASCAR Nitrous Party: Cleetus Takes The Dale Truck To The Dragstrip!

“If you don’t cheat, you look like an idiot. If you do it and you don’t get caught, you look like a hero. If you do it and get caught, you look like a dope. Put me in the category where I belong.” Those were the words of Darrell Waltrip after he got busted using spray in his car for qualifying for the 1976 Daytona 500, along with A.J. Foyt and Dave Marcis. NASCAR and nitrous are an official no-no…you have a better chance of getting away with tricked-up bodywork and hidden aero tricks than you do hiding a bottle somewhere for the carburetor to enjoy. But for years, roundy-round racers have all been about finding that little edge, that one thing that will give them the slight bump in power over what the others are supposed to have.

Cleetus’s “Dale Truck”, a Craftsman Truck machine that was converted to be street-legal, has been in the back of the pack for a bit, with other machines and time consumers, like the “Toast” burnout Camaro and all of the work involved with the Freedom Factory track coming to mind. But he’s decided that it’s time to bring out his toy for some laps down the track…on the bottle. Now, this isn’t a 358ci NASCAR block and there’s at least one gear too many in the box to be proper race kit. But who cares when you have a street-legal NASCAR truck that’s dipping into the nines on the bottle?
