104hp Per Cylinder – The New 416hp Mercedes 2.0L Four Cylinder Is Hotter Than A Pistol And Makes More Torque

(By Tom Lohnes) – Mercedes-AMG has just revealed their craziest engine ever and it has half the cylinders of a V8. The company revealed a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that makes more power than the 5.3-liter Ecotec V8 in the Chevy Silverado 1500 and even more than the 6.6-liter one in the Heavy-Duty trucks. Turns out there is a replacement for displacement.

So, let’s cut to the chase. This new engine is a 2.0-liter single turbocharged inline-four that produces 416 horsepower. Powering the A45, CLA45, and GLA45 AMG models, this four-banger is sure to excite. To add on to that crazy power stat, the 4-cylinder makes 389 lb.-ft of torque. In these 45 series models power will be sent from this ballistic engine to all four wheels through a 4MATIC+ AWD system that can be equipped with a drift mode, because that is exactly what your hatchback should do: Drift.

The sole transmission option is a 9-speed automatic, because Mercedes. On the inside, the 45 models are what you would expect from an AMG: Lots of black alcantara. The cloud-based MBUX infotainment system is standard with a voice assistant that will prove more annoying than helpful. 0-60 is expected in 3.7 seconds, and 177 MPH is the top speed.

Yeah, so all of this is $75,000. For a hatchback/crossover/fastback thing, it’s a lot. And also, if you’re in America, you only get 382 horsepower because apparently, we can’t be trusted with 416.

The title catched my attention , 416hp from a 4cyl . Then …it’s turbocharged . So the equation is not 416 hp with half the cylinders , it’s 416 hp with half the cylinders + a turbocharger and all the plumbing and stuff .

Still pretty good numbers for a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder. So if it was an 8 cylinder 832 horsepower would also be impressive.
